Prostate checks

Let’s demystify why prostate checks are vital and why there is no need for men to die from embarrassment.

The prostate is a gland found in men responsible for producing fluid to nourish and protect sperm cells. The prostate gland can enlarge, and as men age, unfortunately, this can cause diverse health problems.
Prostate Cancer is one of the most common cancers among men, with around 140 cases per day in the United Kingdom.

Given the prevalence of prostate cancer, it is crucial for all men to undergo prostate checks and PSA blood tests regularly. The prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood test is an easy-to-carry-out blood test that measures the levels of PSA in a man's blood. PSA is a protein created within the prostate gland, and elevated levels of PSA, may indicate the presence of prostate cancer.
Early detection of prostate cancer is important for successful treatment and cure. In fact, the survival rate for prostate cancer is very good if it is caught early and treated promptly. However, if prostate cancer is not detected until it has spread to other body parts, the survival rate drops significantly.
In addition to detecting prostate cancer, regular prostate checks and PSA blood tests can also help identify other prostate problems, such as prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate) and benign prostatic hyperplasia (prostate enlargement).

While some men may feel uncomfortable or embarrassed about undergoing a prostate exam, I cannot overstate the potential advantages of early detection and treatment. The procedure is typically quick and painless, with minimal discomfort.
Furthermore, regular prostate checks and PSA blood tests can help put men's minds at ease about their prostate health and provide them and their families with much-needed peace of mind.
By taking an active role in your prostate health, you can help secure a long and healthy life.
