Your First Visit

For patients who have never been to our practice before, your first visit will last between 45 minutes to an hour. We have this time to make sure nothing is rushed and we answer any questions you may have. Your Osteopath will take a case history which involves asking questions about your pain and general health so we can get a really good and clear understanding of the problems you are facing. This will include questions about your general health and past medical history.  Your Osteopath will, with your consent, conduct postural and movement assessments to determine the areas that require attention. A treatment plan will be discussed based on your individual needs, so by the time you leave, you should have a diagnosis, a prognosis and an exercise plan to put you on the path to recovery.

Common questions:

Will I need to undress?

You may be asked to remove some of your clothing as this will allow your Osteopath to examine the area and observe your posture. If this is a problem please let your Osteopath know and we can accommodate you accordingly.

What happens during treatment?

Treatment aims to restore function. You may have regions of your body that are stiff, tight and sore. Your Osteopath may use soft tissue massage, gentle movements and stretching, and where appropriate stronger techniques such as muscle energy technique and HVT.

What happens if I don’t like or want part of my treatment?

All you have to do is just let your Osteopath know, they will talk about alternatives. We use a wide variety of techniques to restore function. If you are unsure, or something is uncomfortable we can try something different.

Will I feel sore after treatment?

Sometimes people do feel slightly tender after treatment. If this happens it is likely to last between 24-48 hours. This usually occurs due to your body adjusting to the changes that may have been made through treatment. If you are in any way concerned please call us to let us know how you feel. We will be able to advise you on what to do or stop doing to help relieve the discomfort you are feeling.
